ABOUT PRODUCTID 6443
This pair of bookends from the 1950s was crafted in Germany from hand-carved beech wood, finished in a warm, honey-toned stain with a semi-matte sheen that accentuates the natural grain. The terriers are rendered in a geometric, almost cubist style typical of mid-century modern, with pronounced, upright ears and simplified silhouettes. The eyes are made from clear glass, introducing a subtle glossy accent that brings a lifelike quality to the figures. Both the base and vertical support are also beech, with visible horizontal grain and precisely finished edges. The pieces are seamlessly integrated, with no visible fittings or secondary materials. Dimensions: height 14 cm, length 12 cm, width 7 cm. The original manufacturer's label is preserved. Condition is excellent, with minimal signs of age and an unblemished surface – these bookends present remarkably well for vintage objects. These bookends carry the voice of the 1950s, an era when function and simplicity mingled with playful forms. The geometric terriers, as if carved from a single block in one confident gesture, evoke the postwar optimism and appreciation for craftsmanship. Glass eyes catch the light, lending a spark of life to the figures, while the honey-colored wood, gently patinated, recalls the warmth of home libraries from decades past. Though compact, these objects tell a story of German decorative tradition and the quiet rituals of daily reading. The bookends would suit placement in a living room or home library, supporting both classic volumes and mid-century albums. They may be paired with light wood furniture or a minimalist shelf with bold lines – their geometric form harmonizes naturally with mid-century modern interiors, but also finds its place in eclectic, collector’s arrangements. Consider combining them with other carved accessories or glass
