A unique book bookmark from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, crafted in the Russian Empire from 84 (875) silver and marked with assay office hallmarks typical for Warsaw or St. Petersburg silversmith workshops. The piece is formed from a single, precisely cut silver plate measuring 8.5 cm in length and 3.5 cm in width, featuring gently rounded edges softened by time. The prevailing tone is a cool, matte silver enhanced by areas of natural patina, setting off the subtle hand-engraving: simplified but distinctive facial features of a Chinese man in traditional Qing dynasty attire, his braid (bianzi) and robe details picked out with discreet hatching.
