ABOUT PRODUCTID 17177
A decorative pressed glass bowl designed by Jiří Šuhájek for Crystalex Novy Bor in Czechoslovakia during the 1980s. The vessel is rendered in a cool, translucent grey with a gentle milky undertone, creating a subtly frosted, ethereal effect. The surface displays refined concentric horizontal striations, adding tactile structure and visual depth, while the exterior’s satin-matte finish—likely achieved via sandblasting or acid etching—contrasts with the clear, glossy, polished inside bottom. Its flared conical silhouette broadens gracefully from a cylindrical, thick-walled pedestal base. The original golden signature sticker affixed at the rim testifies to authenticity. The bowl is preserved in good condition, showing only several tiny surface scratches and no chips or cracks. This form channels the voice of Czechoslovak modernism of the 1980s: minimalist geometry paired with graphic, thoughtful texture. The glass—translucent yet filled with light—evokes the sensibility of interiors from its era: utilitarian objects endowed with architectural precision and a touch of artistry. Such decorative glassware was designed to bring calm and cool harmony to the space, while expressing exceptional craftsmanship. The bowl can be positioned on a raw wooden or stone tabletop in the living room, where it may be paired with ceramics or glass in muted hues. It can be displayed on a sideboard alongside minimalist candlesticks, or combined with patinated metals and textiles in a collected arrangement. The piece also works well as a stand-alone accent in mid-century modern settings, or in contemporary, understated interiors that emphasize light, texture, and subtle decoration.
