ABOUT PRODUCTID 1915
This art glass bowl, designed by Jaroslav Beranek for the Skrdlovice glassworks, was created circa 1960 in Czechoslovakia. Hand-formed from multicolored glass, it presents a substantial, organic silhouette with undulating, asymmetrical edges and sculptural freeform contours. The piece features delicate color transitions—transparent amber blending into light green with hints of pink—resulting in a harmonious, pastel effect. The highly polished, glossy surface enhances the depth and play of light within the glass, while thick walls and a solid base underscore the sculptural presence of the vessel. The base is carefully ground and polished flat, reflecting meticulous finishing. The bowl remains in excellent condition with no visible damage; only minimal, age-appropriate wear attests to its vintage origin. The form of this bowl, like a droplet of glass caught mid-motion, captures the spirit of 1960s Czech art glass. It speaks to a time when the Skrdlovice glassworks—led by Jaroslav Beranek—pushed the boundaries of functionality, embracing experimental color and shape. This vessel tells the story of its era: freedom of form meets skilled craftsmanship, while the pastel color gradients evoke the freshness of mid-century modern aesthetics. Each curve and contour reveals the artist’s search for expression, treating glass as both material and a canvas for painting with light. The bowl can serve as a focal point in a living room or a bright dining area, where natural light will bring out the full spectrum of its colors. It may be paired with a minimalist wooden table or a marble console, alongside other glass objects from the era or simple ceramics. Suitable for mid-century modern settings as well as eclectic collector interiors, it can be displayed solo or with geometric forms to highlight its artistic origin and organic shape.
