ABOUT PRODUCTID 16710
This large decorative centerpiece from Murano, hand-blown in the 1960s, exemplifies the hallmark sommerso technique: layers of turquoise and light amethyst glass smoothly merge, creating chromatic depth and luminous transitions. The vessel is further accentuated by a regular pattern of trapped air bubbles—bullicante—a rarely executed technique in objects of such sizeable proportions (width 53 cm, height 11 cm, depth 38 cm). Its form is biomorphic, with dramatic, winged extensions and softly elongated points, the surface glossy and immaculately finished. The original Murano label on the underside testifies to its authentic Venetian craftsmanship. There are no traces of wear; the object remains in excellent, original condition. The bowl evokes the spirit of Italian mid-century modernism: dynamic, undulating lines reminiscent of water in motion, while the interplay of turquoise and violet reveals new nuances with every shift in the light. The glass radiates both tranquility and energy—like a snapshot of the Venetian lagoon as sunlight dances across the surface. The pattern of bubbles disrupts the smooth expanse with delicate visual rhythm, lending an impression of underwater depth, a nod to the glassmaking experiments for which Murano is renowned. Placed at the center of a low table in a contemporary or eclectic living space, the bowl can serve as a focal point against wood, marble, or minimalist surfaces. It pairs well with organically shaped lighting or with finishes in glass, polished metal, or ceramic. In mid-century modern or collector’s interiors, the piece may be complemented by a bold graphic artwork or by a single, slender green branch—emphasizing both its uniqueness and the artistic heritage of Murano.
