ABOUT PRODUCTID 1910
This bowl from the 'Propeller' set, designed by Jan Kotik in 1955 for the Skrdlovice glassworks, is a striking example of mid-20th-century Czech design. Hand-formed from crystal glass, it features a multicolored palette: deep amethyst purple seamlessly blends into vibrant blues and subtle green accents, especially prominent at the base and within the dynamic, organic contours. The glass has a high-gloss, almost mirror-like surface that accentuates the interplay of light and color across its undulating, irregular edges and asymmetrical base. The ground, polished underside attests to precise craftsmanship, while pronounced, sculptural protrusions give the bowl a sense of movement. Dimensions: height 10.5 cm, length 31 cm, width 18 cm. The condition is excellent—no visible damage, chips, or signs of wear, with the glass retaining its original luster. The form of this bowl tells the story of Czechoslovak modernism, where function met artistic freedom. It seems to capture the movement of water or a gust of air in glass—as if time itself is momentarily suspended in a swirl of color. Jan Kotik, inspired by nature and the dynamism of his era, created a vessel that not only decorates but also invites contemplation of shifting reflections. The flowing edges and smooth color transitions evoke the experimental spirit of the 1950s, along with a respect for refined craftsmanship. This bowl can serve as the centerpiece on a low coffee table or a console in an entrance area. It may be paired with furniture featuring simple, geometric lines and a neutral palette to highlight its sculptural form and vibrant colors.
