This crystal centerpiece bowl was created around 1950 at the Mandruzatto glassworks on the island of Murano, based on a design by Flavio Poli, one of the leading figures of Italian mid-century glassmaking. It is made from mass-colored, layered glass, employing the 'sommerso' (sun technique), which creates subtle tonal shifts from a deep amethyst-plum hue to a nearly transparent base. The organic, asymmetrical form features a wide, shallow basin that transitions into a dramatic spiral at one end, giving the piece a sculptural, almost architectural quality characteristic of mid-century modern aesthetics. The high-gloss, mirrored surface, precisely ground and polished underside, and elongated proportions reveal expert craftsmanship. The bowl is preserved in excellent vintage condition, with no visible damage or signs of restoration. Within this piece echoes the voice of postwar Venice, when applied art embraced both experimentation and modernity.
