This Austrian tortoiseshell box, crafted after 1922, is a refined example of Art Deco artistry in a compact form. The body is made from genuine tortoiseshell, showcasing a rich, deep amber-brown hue with warm golden and reddish undertones, all accentuated by a highly polished, glassy surface. The gilded silver frame (935 fineness), hallmarked in Vienna and additionally bearing a Polish import mark from the years 1920–1931, is adorned with intricate, hand-engraved foliate motifs. The rectangular, slightly curved silhouette features rounded corners and a precisely fitted hinge, giving the piece balanced, elegant proportions. There are no visible damages or repairs; overall, the box is preserved in excellent condition with only minimal signs of age. Condition: very good, no damage.This box carries the quiet voice of 1920s Vienna, when Art Deco blended utility with ornamentation. The lustrous sheen of tortoiseshell and the delicacy of the engraved silver evoke the ambiance of historic salons, where even the smallest accessories reflected refined taste and status.
