ABOUT PRODUCTID 11671
This cigar box from 1970s Poland is crafted entirely from hand-hammered steel in a cool, medium-dark gray tone. The matte surface, animated by subtle sheen on the raised areas, highlights the unique texture shaped by blacksmithing tools. Its geometric, rectangular body with softly curved sides rests on four robust, scroll-shaped legs that evoke medieval or folk motifs. The lid is adorned with hand-forged scrollwork and a sculptural, upright handle, with visible rivets and hammer marks that accentuate the artisanal, handcrafted nature of the object. The proportions are balanced, and the height of the legs together with the decorative lid give the box a sculptural, almost architectural presence. The steel shows an even, authentic patina, with no signs of damage or repair – the condition is very good. The form of this box tells the story of 1970s Polish metalwork, where the rawness of steel met the imagination of the artisan. Each hammered indentation, every tool mark, becomes a record of time and the maker’s individual gesture. The scroll-shaped legs and ornamental lid details recall objects from old workshops, moments when utility and decoration coexisted, and the brutalist simplicity of form conveyed the honesty of the era and a respect for material. In a living room, the box could be displayed on an oak console, where the contrast between the steel’s gray and the wood’s warmth would highlight its texture. It could be paired with minimalist vessels, raw ceramics, or sculptural accents in other materials. It would suit eclectic, vintage, or industrial interiors, where its architectural shape could temper soft textiles and introduce a graphic note to a relaxation area, library, or home bar.
