ABOUT PRODUCTID 41055
This intimate French cabinet sculpture from the late 19th century is a testament to the era’s focus on the beauty of everyday life and naturalistic observation. Cast in bronze or a bronze alloy, the piece features finely rendered details and a warm, golden-brown patina that highlights the folds of clothing, facial features, and the texture of the rocky base. The composition depicts a barefoot young boy in period attire, seated casually on a stone, holding a fishing rod in one hand and proudly displaying his catch in the other. The finish is matte with subtle satin gleams on raised areas, emphasizing the relief’s depth and form. The entire sculpture is unified—a single casting for the figure and base—with the slender fishing rod inserted separately. The overall condition is very good, with a consistent, natural patina underscoring the object's age and authenticity. The piece echoes the gentle voice of 19th-century France, telling stories of idyllic afternoons, childhood innocence, and the joy found in simple pleasures. The sculpture seems to hold a moment in time—bare feet on stone, a gaze full of pride and delight, captured forever in bronze. Every detail, from the softly draped shirt to the dynamic gesture of the hands, evokes the era’s genre art, which celebrated everyday life and genuine emotion. The patina settling into the recesses adds depth and a sense of history, as if the sculpture itself whispers of tranquil days spent by the river. This sculpture can become a refined accent in a study, on a library shelf, or atop a console in the living room.
