ABOUT PRODUCTID 20348
This ceramic cake plate, designed by Elżbieta Piwek-Białoborska in 1957 for the Włocławek Faience Factory, is a representative piece of the Polish New Look style of the 1950s. Made of faience, glazed to a glossy finish and hand-painted, the plate stands out with its asymmetrical, shell-inspired form, softly rounded edges, and gently undulating rim. The dominant pastel yellow surface transitions into a hand-applied gradient, accentuated by a radiating, semi-transparent green and dynamic brown lines that create a vivid, organic composition. Slight irregularities and visible brushstrokes emphasize the artisanal mid-century character, while the glossy glaze enhances the vibrancy and depth of the colors. Dimensions: 18 × 16.5 × 3.4 cm. The subtle glaze sheen gives the piece clarity, while its irregular shape carries the creative freedom of a period experimenting with both form and color. The plate can serve both as a functional tableware element and as a decorative accent on a console, shelf, or wall. It may be combined with other New Look era pieces or juxtaposed against simple, modern ceramics to highlight the contrast between handcrafted and contemporary forms. Pairing it with a light tablecloth, minimalist glassware, or pastel accessories would bring out its color palette and organic character. It would also fit well in eclectic collections, where
