This ceramic cake plate, designed by Elżbieta Piwek-Białoborska in 1957 for the Włocławek Faience Factory, is a representative piece of the Polish New Look style of the 1950s. Made of faience, glazed to a glossy finish and hand-painted, the plate stands out with its asymmetrical, shell-inspired form, softly rounded edges, and gently undulating rim. The dominant pastel yellow surface transitions into a hand-applied gradient, accentuated by a radiating, semi-transparent green and dynamic brown lines that create a vivid, organic composition. Slight irregularities and visible brushstrokes emphasize the artisanal mid-century character, while the glossy glaze enhances the vibrancy and depth of the colors. Dimensions: 18 × 16.5 × 3.4 cm. Preserved in very good condition – no visible damage, chips, or significant wear.This object evokes the postwar optimism of the 1950s—its form seems to recount an era when Polish ceramics sought modern shapes and more vivid coloration.
