ABOUT PRODUCTID 12378
This early 20th-century cake server was crafted in France, reflecting the transition from the late Belle Époque to the dawn of Art Nouveau. The serving blade is made of brass, richly engraved with undulating floral and botanical motifs characteristic of the era. The handle, formed from alpacca (a nickel, copper, and zinc alloy also known as nickel silver), presents a harmonious blend of silver and gold tones, embellished with relief decorations: beaded borders, oval medallions, and stylized botanical elements. The junction between blade and handle features a decorative floral accent that highlights the craftsmanship. The proportions are balanced—a broad, gently curved blade contrasts with the slender, tapering handle. The surface is finished in a muted gold and silver palette with a matte, softly patinated texture, showing light age marks such as fine scratches and subtle patina but no damage or visible repairs. Preserved in very good condition, with natural signs of age. This server echoes the voice of French Art Nouveau, when the art of the table was an everyday ritual and every detail reflected artisan skill. Organic lines, flowing ornamentation, and the gold-silver color scheme conjure the ambiance of fin-de-siècle salons, where refinement infused daily gestures. The engraved brass and noble texture of the handle tell of a time when even utilitarian objects became small works of art, accompanying elegant gatherings for coffee and dessert. It can be combined with Art Nouveau porcelain or classic silver cutlery, creating a cohesive setting for festive teas or family celebrations. The server will also function as a decorative accent on a buffet or in an antique display cabinet, especially in interiors referencing historic eclecticism or classical elegance. Pairing it with delicately patterned textiles or cut glass can further emphasize its decorative presence and French heritage.
