ABOUT PRODUCTID 34747
The Welta Welti I is a classic folding 35mm camera produced in the 1950s by Welta-Kamera-Werk in Dresden, East Germany. Its compact, rectangular body is covered in deep, matte black leatherette with a tactile, slightly grainy texture. Operational elements – dials, hinges, folding struts, and the legendary Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 1:2.9/50 lens housing – are crafted from polished silver-tone metal, offering a striking contrast to the black body. The camera features a robust black bellows and a mechanical Cludor shutter. The construction is precise and balanced, with visible screws and refined technical details. The overall condition is very good, with only minor signs of use on the edges and no significant damage. The offered piece is mechanically functional and comes with its original, fitted protective case. The Welta Welti I tells the story of 1950s German modernism, where engineering precision met everyday utility. Its compact body and distinctive matte finish evoke the optimism of the postwar era, when photography became accessible and designers sought clarity of form and reliability. The metallic sheen of the dials and the silver frame of the Trioplan lens echo a bygone era: somewhat austere, yet ever ready for a new frame—even if today the camera most often serves as an object of contemplation or a prized collector's piece. This camera can be displayed on a shelf, bookcase, or desk, where its form accentuates the character of a mid-century modern or industrial-inspired interior. It pairs well with items of similar heritage—classic period lighting, steel accents, or wooden furniture
