ABOUT PRODUCTID 12496
The 621/8 candle holder, designed by Vladislav Urban for Rosice Glassworks in 1960s Czechoslovakia, exemplifies the era's innovative approach to form and color in Central European design. The body is made from heavy, pressed glass in a consistently saturated turquoise–aquamarine hue, where transparency enhances the clarity and cool tone of the color. Its form—a low rectangular prism with pronounced rounded corners—features intricate, deep reliefs with geometric-organic motifs, hallmarks of mid-century modern aesthetics. The top edge remains perfectly smooth and polished, creating a contrast with the richly textured sides. A single slim candle fits into the upper opening, while a thick base ensures stability. No mold seams or production flaws are visible, reflecting the meticulous craftsmanship of Rosice’s mid-century output. The candle holder remains in excellent preserved condition: no chips, cracks, or scratches interrupt the glass’s original luster. This piece conveys the story of Czech modernism: the interplay of cold hues and deep-cut reliefs reveals a fascination with light and texture inherent to Central European artisans and designers of the 1960s. The geometric play of light across the glass surfaces seems to engage in a dialogue with its surroundings, as the embedded aquamarine tones evoke the architectural freshness of the period. When candlelight passes through the glass body, the prismatic reliefs burst into a kaleidoscope of reflections, recalling the craft which could extract so much visual interest from a simple material. The candle holder may be displayed as a solo accent on a living room sideboard or console, or set among lighter wood furnishings. It also harmonizes beautifully with other colored glassware
