ABOUT PRODUCTID 36582
This glass candle holder, designed by Jerzy Słuczan-Orkusz for the Tarnowiec Glassworks in the 1980s, exemplifies mature Polish modernism rooted in Scandinavian-inspired functionalism. Its form is based on harmonious proportions: a cylindrical stem, a wide, flat plate for the candle, and a rounded base combine to create a cohesive, geometric whole. The handle, crafted from clear glass and visibly hand-attached, accentuates the artisanal character of the piece. The dominant milky white, semi-translucent soda-lime glass subtly contrasts with the transparent loop of the handle. The surface is smooth and glossy, without chips or signs of use. The candle holder is preserved in very good condition, showing no signs of heavy wear or restoration. This object reflects the restraint of 1980s Polish design—a period when even everyday items gained a purity of line and refinement of detail. Its milky white body gently diffuses light, reminiscent of a misty morning, while the transparent handle softly alludes to the collaboration of glassmaker and designer who found full expression in simplicity. The candle holder quietly evokes the sense of domestic warmth at the close of the 20th century—a discreet statement of artisan discipline and functional aesthetics. It can be paired with minimalist ceramics or other glass vessels with pure lines, creating an orderly, serene composition in the living room. It works especially well alongside light wood, natural linen, and matte surfaces typical of modernist or Scandinavian interiors. In a collector’s arrangement, it is worth combining with other Polish glass from the 1970s and 1980s to highlight the interplay of light
