ABOUT PRODUCTID 2506
This candlestick, designed by Tadeusz Szymański for the Wołomin Glassworks in the 1960s, exemplifies Polish utilitarian modernism. The piece is hand-formed from soda-lime glass, colored in mass to a deep amber-brown shade that allows light to pass through its translucent body. The construction refers to the classic chamberstick: a wide, shallow dish serves as a stable base, from which a central cylindrical candle holder rises. At the sides, a substantial, circular collar with two symmetrical handles is seamlessly integrated into the form. The surface is smooth and polished, with a glossy finish enhancing the color's depth. Dimensions: height 10 cm, length 15.5 cm, width 8.5 cm. The condition is excellent – the glass shows no damage, chips, or traces of restoration. This candlestick tells the story of mid-20th-century Poland, when traditional craftsmanship was reinterpreted through the lens of modern design. Its form evokes memories of evenings when candlelight reflected in glass, adding a festive quality to daily life. The amber-brown hue recalls the warmth of 1960s interiors, while handcrafting ensures each piece is unique. The harmonious proportions and gentle curves reflect a modernist pursuit of functional elegance, free of unnecessary ornament. The candlestick can serve as a focal point on a dining table or console, especially in interiors inspired by the 1960s and 1970s. It pairs well with other glass accessories in brown tones, brass, or ceramics with simple forms. It works equally well in classic vintage settings or modern spaces, highlighting the dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. It can also be combined with minimalist candles or natural textiles to emphasize the refined simplicity of the material.
