ABOUT PRODUCTID 35183
This Belgian brutalist candlestick from the 1960s is hand-formed from a heavy alloy of iron with brass admixture. Its organic, spatial silhouette evokes abstract sculpture or a fragment of coral—irregular, branching arms create a dynamic composition while the asymmetrical, slightly concave base stabilizes the abstract upper structure. The surface is distinctly rough, with intentional pitting and fissures, highlighting its expressive, handcrafted character. A deep black metallic ground is accentuated by golden-brown highlights where the brass emerges, most notably along edges and raised areas. Matte textures are contrasted with glossy, polished details. The object displays subtle traces of patina, minor scratches, and wear consistent with age, but no significant damage. It remains in good condition, having undergone gentle refreshing. The form of this candlestick channels the spirit of 1960s brutalism—a decade marked by bold formal experimentation and a fascination with raw materiality. This object speaks in the uncompromising language of its era: the metal appears as if arrested mid-motion, its irregular arms echoing the artist’s gesture of letting matter express its own vitality. Golden glimmers on the blackened surface evoke fire and the foundry’s craft, bringing into the interior a sense of elemental energy, as if the candlestick itself were a fragment of a larger narrative about the transformative power of applied art in the mid-century. The candlestick may be used as a sculptural accent on a low wooden coffee table, where its form draws the gaze. It will also suit a sideboard surrounded by minimal decor—raw ceramics or graphite-toned glass. Whether placed in a mid-century modern inspired setting, an eclectic vintage collection, or a contemporary interior with industrial undert
