ABOUT PRODUCTID 14702
The two-armed candlestick from the Ikora line, designed by Kurt Radtke for WMF in 1961, is a noteworthy example of postwar West German modernism. Its construction features an elongated rectilinear bar resting atop a dynamic, v-shaped base, lending a sense of visual lightness to the form. Crafted from silver-plated brass with a brushed, matte finish, the surface exhibits a subtle, tactile texture that gently diffuses light. The cool silver-gray color is enriched at the edges by a warm, golden undertone, accentuating craftsmanship and depth. Each candle holder takes the shape of a shallow, tulip-like bowl; their interiors, slightly more lustrous than the rest, reflect candlelight and introduce a refined play of reflections. The WMF signature is stamped on the underside. All original elements are preserved in very good condition, with only minor abrasions typical for vintage objects from the 1960s. Within the candlestick’s restrained geometry echoes the ethos of the 1960s: rationality and clarity of form. Drawing from Bauhaus principles—clean divisions, harmonious proportions, functional simplicity—it avoids ornamentation, yet the interplay of light on matte silver and golden edges narrates a story of postwar Europe focused on material quality and precise craftsmanship.
