ABOUT PRODUCTID 2172
This Empire-style card holder, crafted in France around 1815, exemplifies the refined decorative arts of the Napoleonic era. The main section is made of clear, high-quality crystal glass with a smooth, lustrous surface, precisely faceted edges, and a gently arched top. The colorless glass highlights the richly ornamented gilt bronze (ormolu) setting, which envelops the base in a warm, deep gold. Notable details include a delicate balustrade motif and a central Empire-style relief depicting Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth, in the act of sculpting a bust of Zeus. The relief features classical drapery and stylized hair, echoing the neoclassical ideals of the period. The design is symmetrical and geometric, with proportions (10.5 × 8.5 × 5.5 cm) that accentuate its intimate yet representative character. The object is preserved in excellent condition, with only minor, natural signs of age on the gilded surfaces. The form of this piece speaks with the voice of its era, when the exchange of visiting cards
