This Empire-style card holder, crafted in France around 1815, exemplifies the refined decorative arts of the Napoleonic era. The main section is made of clear, high-quality crystal glass with a smooth, lustrous surface, precisely faceted edges, and a gently arched top. The colorless glass highlights the richly ornamented gilt bronze (ormolu) setting, which envelops the base in a warm, deep gold. Notable details include a delicate balustrade motif and a central Empire-style relief depicting Hestia, the Greek goddess of the hearth, in the act of sculpting a bust of Zeus. The relief features classical drapery and stylized hair, echoing the neoclassical ideals of the period. The design is symmetrical and geometric, with proportions (10.5 × 8.5 × 5.5 cm) that accentuate its intimate yet representative character. The object is preserved in excellent condition, with only minor, natural signs of age on the gilded surfaces.
