ABOUT PRODUCTID 4960
This late 19th-century Viennese bronze card holder exemplifies the craftsmanship of the historicist era. The object features a naturalistically cast dog figure, its front paws resting on the rim of a tub-shaped vessel intended for calling cards. The primary material is a warm, golden-brown bronze, showing an authentic patina with subtle greenish hues in recessed areas and along the edges. The surface is largely matte, with a natural sheen on more exposed sections, indicating years of careful use and preservation. The tub, crafted to imitate wood, displays incised divisions and a realistic grain texture, achieved using a two-layered chased metal technique, while the dog was cast using traditional methods. Anatomical detail in the dog—muscular form, expressive face, visible collar—and the contrast between the animal’s smooth surface and the geometric structure of the vessel evoke the style of Franz Xaver Bergman’s bronzes. The piece is in very good condition: only minor scratches and a natural patina are present, with no major damage or evidence
