The Ghoum/Qom carpet measuring 325 × 215 cm is a hand-knotted tapestry from late 1990s India, crafted entirely from silk with a cotton foundation. Its field is informed by the chahar bagh composition, dividing the surface into rectangular panels framed by delicate borders and filled with motifs of stylized trees, vases, birds, and pointed mihrab niches. The wide main border, adorned with arabesques and floral garlands, frames the central ground. Ivory white dominates the color scheme, with a pearly silk sheen, enhanced by gentle tones of burgundy, red, turquoise, blue, olive green, ochre, beige, and brown. The pile, short and even, allows the clarity of the pattern and the signature smoothness and softness of silk to emerge clearly. Fringes in natural white cotton are preserved in their original state.This interplay of material and design evokes the poetry of a walled garden, where symmetry and detail create a visual rhythm.
