This late 19th-century National cash register, manufactured in the United States for the Danish market, exemplifies mature American Art Nouveau. The construction is crafted from solid brass in a warm, golden-bronze tone, enriched by a natural patina that enhances its matte-satin finish. The entire surface is adorned with deeply embossed floral and vegetal motifs, creating an organic rhythm characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. The robust, rectangular base ensures stability, while the gently arched and highly decorative upper section gives the piece an elegant, vertical profile. The keyboard features round buttons in white, black, red, and blue shades, each set in a metallic bezel; the display window is marked with 'Kroner' and 'Ore', indicating its intended Scandinavian use. The cash drawer mechanism and side lever are integral elements of the construction, executed in solid metal.
