ABOUT PRODUCTID 29688
This ceiling lamp, designed by Helena Tynell for Limburg in Germany in the 1960s/70s, is a distinctive example of mid-century modern lighting. Its construction is defined by a large, hand-blown glass shade in a warm, transparent light amber hue, featuring a pronounced bubble texture. The glossy surface of the glass disperses light and creates a golden glow. The upper section consists of a vertical brass cylinder with a brushed, subtly patinated finish that complements the tones of the glass. The lamp is suspended from a discreet black cord, and its proportions—80 cm in height and 30 cm in diameter—highlight its monumental presence. The design is seamless with no visible external connectors, and the organic glass contrasts with the geometric brass detail. Condition: excellent, with a subtle patina on the brass and no damage to the glass. This lamp echoes the spirit of optimistic 1960s Europe, when light and form merged in designs that offered both function and personality. The shade evokes the image of air frozen in amber—its bubbles diffuse light in a soft, golden halo, evoking the warmth of an era fascinated by new modern possibilities. The gentle patina on the brass cylinder is a discreet trace of history, and the interplay of reflections conjures the atmosphere of a time when designers experimented with light and surface. The lamp could be hung in a spacious living room or above a dining table, where it would serve as a striking focal point. It pairs well with teak wood furniture, ochre or grey textiles, and minimalist wall graphics. It can also be combined with contemporary elements, where the organic glass form and golden light create a soft contrast to clean, monochrome surfaces.
