ABOUT PRODUCTID 36898
An original ceiling lampshade from the Polish People’s Republic (PRL), dating from the 1960s/70s, embodies the distinctive mid-century modern style of Eastern Europe. Crafted from thick, opaline glass in a warm, milky white tone with a glossy, smooth surface, the lampshade features evenly spaced horizontal stripes in shades of orange and yellow encircling its widest section. The form is overtly geometric, with a bulbous, almost spherical body tapering at the top and bottom into rounded, stepped collars. Dimensions: height 23 cm, width 20 cm, top opening 4.5 cm, bottom opening 10 cm. Slight variations and minor imperfections, typical for hand-blown glass, enhance its authenticity. The overall condition is very good, with only minor paint wear and occasional small chips at the edges. The listed price refers to a single piece. This shade echoes the voice of 1970s Polish modernity: opaline glass gently diffuses the light, while geometric lines and orange-yellow bands compose a quiet, optimistic melody from decades past. It seems poised to tell stories of evenings spent in living rooms designed with the era’s modern sensibility—a light source intended to be both practical and decorative, mirroring the optimism and simplicity of the late PRL period. The lampshade may be paired with chromed or brass fittings to highlight its vintage character. It works well in interiors inspired by mid-century modern style, but also in eclectic, collector-driven spaces where vintage accents create layered narratives. Consider combining it with furniture of simple lines and natural finishes as well as textiles in warm, muted tones to draw out the gentle illumination and color accent of the shade.
