ABOUT PRODUCTID 6145
This Art Deco ceramic centerpiece plate was crafted by Michael Andersen & Son in Denmark during the 1930s. Made of dense, finely worked ceramic, it features a matte, subtly speckled turquoise-green glaze with a gentle satin sheen. The plate’s focal point is a raised relief depicting a stylized ibex or mountain goat—a motif typical of the era’s fascination with geometric animal forms, evoking both motion and strength. The broad, flat rim is encircled by a regular, bead-like raised border, adding both texture and rhythm. The proportions are balanced: a wide, flat edge transitions into a shallow bowl measuring 5 cm in height and 22 cm in diameter. The plate is signed and remains in very good vintage condition, with only minor, age-consistent glaze imperfections visible upon close inspection. The form of this piece channels the spirit of 1930s Scandinavian modernism: it unites the power of nature with the discipline of geometric composition. The depth of the relief and the softly muted glaze allow light to play gently across the surface, accentuating the dynamic animal motif and the rhythmic border. The plate seems to tell of a time when nature inspired designers, and Art Deco in its Nordic interpretation stood for refined simplicity and restraint. The centerpiece can be displayed on a low sideboard or living room table as a standalone accent—its cool hue harmonizes with light wood, dark tabletops, or other mid-century Scandinavian ceramics. It may be matched with simple candlesticks or a matte vase to highlight the relief and the subtle sheen of the glaze. Interiors styled in Art Deco, modernism, or eclectic collector’s arrangements would benefit from the plate’s understated historical presence. No special maintenance is required—dust
