ABOUT PRODUCTID 38025
This centerpiece bowl, produced by the Roman Plewkiewicz & Co. Silver and Gilt Metalware Factory in Warsaw, exemplifies Polish craftsmanship from the early 20th century. Its construction features silver-plated brass with a balanced, subtly matte sheen, highlighted by a geometric openwork base and four spherical feet for stability. Two rectangular handles emphasize the early 20th-century Art Nouveau logic of form. The insert is made of thick, clear soda glass with a pronounced, pressed rim adorned with vertical and arch motifs. The piece is signed on the underside; its proportions—18.5 cm in length, 12 cm in width, and 7 cm in height—make it practical for displaying fruit or sweets at the center of a table. The condition is described as very good: the metal and glass surfaces remain uniform, with no signs of tarnish, damage, or restoration, and all components are original. This bowl carries the voice of Warsaw’s urban elegance from over a century ago—a reflection of an era where technical progress met artisanal precision. The metal openwork and geometric handles are a tribute to the early 20th century, when ornament became a statement of modernity and the pairing of glass and metal evoked everyday luxury. Its form speaks of the harmony and order prized during gatherings around the table in that period.Such a centerpiece would work well as a focal point on a classic dining or living room table. It could be paired with simply patterned porcelain or cut crystal glassware for a balanced composition echoing the fin-de-siècle spirit. Interiors inspired by Art Nouveau, classical, or collector’s eclectic styles would benefit from its authentic presence. It is worth combining with table linens in natural fabrics and silver or nickel-plated serving pieces to accentuate its historical identity.
