This ceramic bowl, designed by Jorgen Mogensen for the Danish Soholm manufactory in the 1960s, exemplifies the striking aesthetics of mid-century modern design. Its form is organic and asymmetrical, with softly rounded, flowing edges and a gently sloping rim. The ceramic surface is finished in a deep, matte black with a subtle warmth, while the interior features a centrally placed, hand-painted motif – a stylized cityscape rendered in pale yellow, off-white and black, complemented by blue-gray accents and fine white lines. The graphic, almost abstract illustration depicts buildings, trees, and birds in a manner typical of the era. The bowl stands on a small, slightly raised foot, lending stability and highlighting its sculptural character. The base bears the Soholm, Bornholm GJ signature and the number 2047, confirming its authenticity as a collectible example of Danish modern ceramics. Preserved in excellent condition, with only minimal age-appropriate signs of use. This bowl echoes the narrative of Danish modernism from the 1960s – a piece that favors symbol and graphic shorthand over literalism.
