ABOUT PRODUCTID 5738
This large ceramic vase, designed by Roberto Rigona for the Italian manufacturer Bertoncello in the 1960s, exemplifies refined mid-century modern design. Its sculptural, bulbous body with a tall, slender neck and flared mouth is complemented by a single, elegantly curved handle joining the neck and shoulder. The dominant, deep reddish-brown glaze with a glossy finish is contrasted by cream and beige drip-glaze accents, cascading organically and creating a dynamic, organic pattern. The smooth, lustrous surface highlights the quality of craftsmanship; the handle is seamlessly attached, contributing to the harmonious silhouette. The vase measures 37 cm in height, with a maximum diameter of 18 cm and a base diameter of 10 cm. It is preserved in excellent condition—its surface is uniform, with no visible signs of wear, damage, or restoration. The vase embodies the spirit of 1960s Italian modernism, when designers sought sculptural innovation in everyday objects. The earth-toned glaze evokes the warmth of the Mediterranean, while the fluid lines recall a conversation between functional art and sculpture. The piece seems to draw from the southern landscape—telling a story of light reflecting off glossy ceramic and movement imparted by the cream drips. Its form invites interpretation: is it an echo of ancient amphorae or a gesture towards modern abstraction? In an interior setting, it can be paired with light wood furniture and natural-textured textiles to highlight its southern character. It works well as a focal point on a console, sideboard, or coffee table in a mid-century modern or contemporary eclectic living room. Consider combining it with matte ceramics or glass accents in subtle tones, and either display it with a single striking branch or leave it empty—its silhouette alone is decorative.
