ABOUT PRODUCTID 42728
This Bauhaus-style chair from the 1980s, made in Italy, is built on a cantilevered frame of polished, silver-toned steel tubing. The frame displays a subtle patina along with localized discoloration and irregularities at the welded joints—marks typical of handcrafting and the passage of time. The seat and backrest are covered in a densely woven, matte fabric with a striking houndstooth pattern, where black and brown interplay to create a graphic effect. The proportions are carefully balanced: a wide, flat seat and gently curved backrest emphasize the chair’s functionalist intent. There is no foam padding; the seat remains firm and utilitarian. The chair can be stacked, making it practical for daily use. The listed price refers to a single piece. Preserved in good condition, with visible signs of use consistent with the 1980s.The form of this chair tells the story of Italian modernism at the close of the twentieth century. The cool gleam of metal, austere geometry, and bold houndstooth pattern recall the spirit of functionalism, where every detail serves its purpose. Subtle patina and visible welds do not conceal the chair’s history, but rather highlight its authenticity and dignified presence. It echoes the rational elegance of Italian offices and studios from the 1980s, where design became a statement of its era.The chair is well suited to mid-century modern arrangements, minimalist collector’s interiors, or eclectic spaces where its material contrasts can stand out. It may be paired with a substantial wooden table to emphasize texture differences, combined with other steel elements or Bauhaus-inspired lighting, or set off with raw textiles. In multiples, the chair creates a harmonious dining or home office composition; thanks to its stackable nature, it is also a practical choice for multipurpose environments.
