ABOUT PRODUCTID 29926
The Bauhaus D61 chair, designed by El Lissitzky for the German brand Tecta in the 1970s, represents a distinct example of postwar reinterpretation of classic modernism. Crafted entirely from plywood, it features a cool matte black finish as the main color, accented by vivid, slightly glossy cobalt blue on the seat and the tops of the armrests. The construction relies on pure geometry: flat, straight armrests contrast with a curved front base, while exposed screws and joints highlight the honesty of the materials. The characteristic absence of decoration, along with clarity of line and proportion, are trademarks of the Bauhaus aesthetic, here enlivened by a boldly chosen color accent. The chair offers sturdy seating suitable for both residential and public spaces. It remains in good, worn condition, with visible signs of use—minor scratches and edge scuffs add to its vintage authenticity without detracting from stability or function. The form of the D61 chair seems to echo the voice of twentieth-century avant-garde: economy of means, material clarity, and, at the same time, a striking presence of color—as if the cobalt blue and black were engaged in dialogue between the utopia of functionalism and the individual gesture of the artist. This piece still carries the spirit of Bauhaus exhibitions, where every element was justified and visible technical details became their own ornamentation. The patina and gentle traces of time evoke the atmosphere of a workshop where experimentation met daily life. The D61 chair may be combined with a modernist table or minimalist console, where its geometric silhouette and contrasting colors form a strong visual anchor. It can be paired with other
