ABOUT PRODUCTID 23862
This chalice-shaped vase, designed by Zbigniew Horbowy in 1971 for the Sudety Glassworks in Szczytna Śląska, exemplifies Polish artistic glass of the 1970s. Made from cased soda-lime glass, its vibrant coloration transitions smoothly from a saturated, warm orange at the bowl to a yellowish-amber tone at the stem and foot. The design is defined by its slender, tulip-shaped bowl set atop an elongated, thin stem and a wide, stable base. The overall aesthetic is rooted in the modernism of the 1970s, embracing purity of line, minimalism, and color as the principal expressive element. The glass surface is glossy, smooth, and free of texture or pattern, highlighting the clarity of the form. The vase remains in very good condition, showing no signs of damage or restoration. This object carries the spirit of Polish modernist design, which in the 1970s boldly embraced intense color and strong, simplified silhouettes. The vase seems to tell the story of an era when color and light were synonymous with modernity and optimism. Its slender profile recalls the lightness and freedom with which Horbowy and his contemporaries approached glass: the vessel never overwhelms the space but adds a luminous accent—like a ray of summer sunlight captured in solid form. This vase could be paired with simple, geometric wooden or metal furniture typical of mid-century modern interiors, or with ceramics in muted shades of grey or blue to further accentuate the vibrancy of the orange glass. It works well as a standalone piece on a low console or grouped with other pure forms—such as minimalist sculptures or period graphics. Both collector-oriented, slightly eclectic settings and bright, modern living rooms would benefit from its subtle yet energetic vintage accent.
