This large chandelier by TEMDE, produced in Switzerland in the 1960s, is a refined example of mid-century modern design with clear Scandinavian and Alpine influences. Its structure is anchored by a central metal stem with a satin-brushed finish, from which three symmetrically arranged arms extend, crafted from bent, layered wood. Each arm ends in a substantial, spherical glass shade in a soft amber-beige tone, featuring a distinctively bubbled, grainy texture that diffuses the light evenly. The wood components have a matte finish that highlights the natural grain and solidity of the construction, with precise visible dowel joints. With dimensions of 65 cm in height, a 60 cm span, and 25 cm diameter globes, the chandelier is both imposing and harmonious in proportion, offering an even illumination from its three glass globes. The whole is topped with a matching wooden ceiling canopy. The chandelier is preserved in very good condition—glass free from cracks or chips, wood retaining its original finish with only minimal signs of use.This piece tells the story of postwar Switzerland, where modern technology and artisanal woodworking merged seamlessly.
