This sputnik chandelier, designed by Emil Stejnar for Austrian interiors of the 1970s, represents a mature phase of European modernism. Its construction centers on a chrome-plated metal sphere from which numerous metal rods radiate, each tipped with a faceted, transparent glass or crystal bead. The entire fixture is rendered in a cool, mirror-like silver with a high-gloss finish; a subtle contrast is introduced by the gold-toned suspension chain. This chandelier, like a materialized vision of the space age, tells a story of fascination with science and illumination. Its chrome arms evoke a starburst, while the glass beads catch and refract light, conjuring images of a starlit Viennese sky in the 1970s. The structure speaks the language of modern
