ABOUT PRODUCTID 28323
The vintage 394 chest of drawers, designed by Kai Kristiansen for the Danish manufacturer Aksel Kjersgaard in the 1960s, is an outstanding example of Scandinavian mid-century modernism. Crafted from oak veneer with a natural, subtly honeyed tone and a satin-matte finish, it highlights the wood grain and organic texture. The cream-white Formica top gently contrasts with the body, adding freshness to the composition. Four drawers, arranged in two rows, are distinguished by circular cut-out handles—a signature of Kristiansen's minimalist language—while slender, squared legs elevate the piece, introducing a sense of visual lightness. Each drawer is made from solid wood, constructed with precise dovetail joints, attesting to the high standard of craftsmanship. The manufacturer's branding is visible on the body. The surface is smooth and uniform, with no visible signs of wear or patina, indicating a meticulous restoration. Preserved in very good condition after thorough refinishing. This chest of drawers echoes the voice of Danish design from the 1960s: the oak tells a story of harmony between form and function, where every detail serves a purpose. Clean lines and geometric divisions evoke the spirit of ordered modernity, while the cream top brings a gentle brightness to the rituals of everyday life in a bygone era. The pared-down handles seem to whisper about minimalism conceived not just as a style but as a way of living—modest, practical, yet quietly refined. The piece would work well in a light-filled living room or hallway, paired with other natural wood furnishings such as a simple sofa on wooden legs or a low coffee table. It could be combined with ceramics in beige tones, Bauhaus-inspired prints, or a lamp with a geometric shade to emphasize its modernist heritage. An interior rooted
