ABOUT PRODUCTID 28613
This chest of drawers, designed by Poul Hundevad for Hundevad & Co., was produced in Denmark in the 1960s and exemplifies classic mid-century modern design. The construction features an oak veneer in a warm, honey-toned matte finish, highlighting the natural straight grain pattern of the wood. The top is finished in white Formica, offering a subtle contrast and a practical, easy-to-clean work surface. The front comprises two sliding doors with integrated, carved handles, leading to three shelves and an internal, galvanized solid wood drawer. The base is a slightly recessed plinth, giving the piece visual lightness despite its solid, geometric proportions. The chest is in very good, restored condition—surfaces are smooth, free from scratches, discoloration, or signs of heavy use. This chest carries the quiet voice of 1960s Scandinavian restraint: the nobility of oak and the austerity of white Formica meet without superfluous ornament, creating a balanced dialogue of materials and purpose. Precise joinery, hidden handles, and carefully considered interior divisions speak to an era that valued order, transparency, and everyday comfort. It is a piece that seems to whisper stories of craftsmanship and effortless harmony, where every detail had its place and meaning. The chest can be paired with light armchairs or a low mid-century coffee table, allowing its wood and geometric forms to reinforce its heritage. It would serve well as a media cabinet, sideboard in
