ABOUT PRODUCTID 35270
This coffee table, designed by Gorm Christensen and Rolf Middelboe for the Danish manufacturer Tranekaer, is a refined example of Scandinavian modernism from the 1970s. The construction is crafted entirely from solid exotic woods, primarily brushed rosewood, which defines both the frame and the straight, rectangular legs, lending the piece a striking structure and substantial weight. The double-layered tabletop, composed of small rectangular wooden pieces, forms a geometric mosaic reminiscent of Paul Klee's works, with an interplay of browns, reds, and golds finished in a satin to semi-matte sheen. The table’s considerable mass (29.7 kg), compact silhouette, and hidden joints emphasize its architectural clarity and stability. The piece is preserved in very good vintage condition: a gentle patina, minor abrasions, and subtle surface scratches attest to the natural aging process of the wood, enhancing the authenticity of the object. The original maker’s signature confirms its provenance. In this composition of wood and light, the table echoes the voice of 1970s Denmark—a time when functionalism merged with artistic expression.
