ABOUT PRODUCTID 18123
The circular coffee table designed by Karel Koželka and Antonín Kropáček was produced by Interier Praha in Czechoslovakia during the 1940s. The construction features solid oak in a deep, medium-dark shade of brown, finished with a satin-matte wax highlighting the natural grain. The tabletop consists of a clear glass panel, seamlessly set into the precisely carved wooden frame. Beneath, a secondary lower wooden shelf provides additional functionality and storage surface. Four gently splayed legs support both tiers, converging in softly rounded, expertly crafted joints that reveal the precision of mid-century joinery. The table’s silhouette is defined by balanced geometry, clean contours, and functional minimalism, emblematic of mid-century modern aesthetics. Visible joints remain clear and sharp, while the wood’s surface appears smooth and fully restored, without traces of wear or patina. The piece remains in excellent, meticulously restored condition.Having received a silver medal at the 1946 Milan Triennale, this table is a tangible expression of postwar Central European modernism. Its proportions and transparency echo the designers’ search for an equilibrium between craftsmanship and refined simplicity during a period marked by renewal. The glass top appears to hover gently above the oak structure, channeling the architectural optimism of the 1940s—a time when every furniture detail embodied a hope for an orderly, functional everyday life. The softly flared legs confer lightness, evoking the atmosphere of Central European salons devoted to conversation and intellect.
