ABOUT PRODUCTID 5582
This mid-19th-century Boulle commode stands as an emblem of French baroque craftsmanship, uniting elaborate construction with ornamental richness. Its wooden body, finished in a deep, high-gloss black lacquer, serves as a dramatic backdrop for intricate marquetry in gilded brass and burgundy-red tortoiseshell. Decorative inlays form arabesques, scrolls, and botanical motifs typical of the Boulle style. The corners are adorned with sculpted female caryatids, further embellished by polished gilded mounts and rosettes. A black marble top, delicately veined, crowns the piece and accentuates its opulent, harmonic presence. The proportions are balanced – robust, straight sides and a subtly curved apron give the commode its architectural coherence. The precision of joinery and the seamless integration of decorative elements reflect the exceptional craftsmanship. Condition
