This faience comport, produced by J & G Alcock in Staffordshire in the first half of the 19th century, represents the refined artistry of early Victorian ceramics. The 'Carleton' pattern is rendered in the flow blue technique, where deep, cool cobalt blue softly blurs against a creamy white ground, creating a distinctively saturated and fluid effect. The wide, gently sloped rim is adorned with a rich blue-and-gold geometric border, while the central well features more delicate floral motifs. Hand-painted gold details, though slightly worn in places, still accentuate the elegant character of the decoration. The glossy surface, with its fine network of crazing, is typical of antique faience and adds to the object's authenticity.
