ABOUT PRODUCTID 32737
The Hibiscus lidded ceramic container is a piece from the renowned Moorcroft pottery, made in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s. Hand-decorated and finished with a high-gloss glaze, it features a deep olive green body and lid. The lid is adorned with a hand-painted, slightly raised hibiscus flower motif in coral-orange, accented with maroon and black details in the center and veins. Large, stylized leaves in shades of green and yellow frame the floral centerpiece, drawing on Art Nouveau influences while the overall silhouette remains low, wide, and smoothly rounded—hallmarks of late 20th-century decorative ceramics. The surface is smooth to the touch, with no visible metal fittings or handles, emphasizing both decorative and functional qualities. The lid fits securely to the base, and the piece is signed on the underside, confirming its Moorcroft authenticity. The condition is very good, with only minimal signs of use and a small, retouched chip on the underside of the lid, invisible during everyday handling. This container carries the voice of the late 20th century, when craft and applied arts engaged in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. The hibiscus blooms across the lid like an echo of Art Nouveau’s organic motifs, yet the glossy glaze and balanced proportions reveal the spirit of the 1980s: a fondness for bold color, luminous finishes, and the decorative autonomy of everyday objects. Within the mirror-like glaze lies a story of English heritage
