ABOUT PRODUCTID 35875
The Vital container, designed by Nils Jonsson for Hugo Troeds in the 1960s, exemplifies Scandinavian modernism in its purest form. The construction consists of a teak wood body with a satin-matte finish, bringing out the warm, medium-brown grain. Three light wood drawers feature organically shaped, recessed handles. The vertical grain on the drawer fronts contrasts subtly with the horizontal grain on the top and sides, creating a refined visual effect. Dovetail joints and two brass locks on the top and bottom drawers highlight the precision of craftsmanship. The compact, almost cubic form, with no visible legs, and veneered back and sides allow for free-standing placement anywhere in a room. The design speaks in a language of restraint, where every detail and proportion serves a purpose. Organic handles and the unified body recall a closeness to nature and respect for material. The interplay of vertical and horizontal grain creates a calm rhythm, while the geometric compactness brings a sense of balance and harmony typical of mid-century Scandinavian design. The container will work well as a freestanding piece next to a desk in a home office or living room, providing storage for documents and accessories. It can be paired with a solid wood desk, a chair with slender legs, and lighting with brass accents to emphasize its mid-century modern character. The warm brown teak complements neutral textiles—greys, beige, graphite—and can be combined with ceramic or glass accessories in muted tones.
