ABOUT PRODUCTID 15304
This original copperplate engraving by Petrus Bertius and Petrus Kaerius from 1616 offers a detailed, panoramic view of Trier, depicting the city walls, the Roman bridge, and the surrounding abbeys and monasteries. The composition is defined by fine, linear hatching typical of seventeenth-century printmaking, rendering the cityscape and landscape with subtle precision. The print is mounted in a rectangular wooden frame with a matte finish, featuring a visible, natural wood grain in a medium-brown tone. The double-layered mat—an outer light beige and an inner off-white—emphasises the historical character of the work. The paper, now aged to a tan and sepia hue, exhibits irregular toning and visible foxing, especially a brownish stain at the upper left and some scattered spots. Both the frame and the mat are in excellent vintage condition, with sharp corners and no evident damage. The ensemble reflects the classic conventions of traditional antique print framing, enhancing the object’s historic and aesthetic value. Preserved in excellent condition, with only minor traces of natural paper aging.
