ABOUT PRODUCTID 1783
This cubist female dancer sculpture from the Hagenauer workshop exemplifies Austrian decorative art of the 1920s. Measuring 30 cm in height, the piece is crafted from patinated steel, set on a glossy black bakelite sphere, and anchored by a polished white marble base. The composition depicts a highly geometric female form in a dynamic, dance-inspired pose, with elongated limbs and sharply faceted contours. The cool, metallic gray of the steel contrasts with the lustrous bakelite and the calm solidity of the marble, enhancing the sense of lightness and balance. The sculpture is preserved in excellent condition, with no visible signs of wear or damage – all original patina and finishing details are present. The figure evokes the spirit of Viennese modernism: a gesture suspended in time, a fragment of movement caught just before its peak. The geometry and abstraction of the body recall an era in pursuit of new forms of expression – breaking away from academic sculpture and embracing a cubist synthesis. The piece speaks of a fascination with motion and the dynamics of dance, but also of a passion for materials – steel, bakelite, and marble here engage in a dialogue typical of Art Deco: precision, rhythm, and the strength of contrasts. This sculpture could be displayed atop a walnut or black oak console, where its geometric silhouette gains depth against the backdrop of fine wood. It would also pair well with minimalist graphic art or beveled mirrors, highlighting its Art Deco roots. In a collector’s vintage interior, combined with a metal-based lamp or an arrangement of geometric vases, the figure achieves the status of a subtle manifesto of modernist elegance and lightness. Dimensions: 30 × 8 × 8 cm.
