ABOUT PRODUCTID 16550
The Zen teacup and saucer, designed in 1973 by Luigi Colani for Friesland Ceracron, exemplify 1970s West German design. Comprising a cup with a height of 4.5 cm and a width (including handles) of 15.6 cm, alongside a saucer with a diameter of 16.8 cm, the set is crafted from black glazed stoneware. Its distinctive structural elements—the sculptural, symmetrical disk-shaped handles, and the broad, low profile—underscore the modernist and space-age character. The perfectly smooth and reflective surface is free from chips or discoloration; any minor superficial scratches are consistent with careful vintage use. The condition is very good—the original glazed ceramics have been preserved in their entirety, with only subtle signs of time typical for authentic pieces from the era. This service tells the story of its epoch, when designers looked to the cosmos for inspiration and sought new lines in futuristic materials. The Zen set echoes Colani's biomorphic modernism: curves and geometric
