ABOUT PRODUCTID 19273
The 'London' shape porcelain coffee cup and saucer, designed by Wincenty Potacki for Ćmielów in 1962, represents Polish mid-century modern design from the 1960s. This export version is crafted from porcelain with a smooth, glossy glaze in a cool medium blue, covering most of the outer cup and the 13.6 cm saucer. The form is defined by its clear geometric silhouette, complemented by hand-painted, elongated abstract leaf or feather motifs outlined in gold and filled with white and black. Bold, deep gilding highlights the rim, handle, and saucer edge, adding a luxurious, reflective accent to the lustrous surface. Bright white porcelain remains visible at the foot of the cup and at the saucer’s central circle, creating graphic contrasts. The set is preserved in very good condition, showing no signs of use, restoration or damage. The Ćmielów 'London' cup tells a story of a time when Polish homes embraced Western modernist influences and everyday objects became small works of art. Its cool blue tone and assertive, graphic gilding evoke the mood of the 1960s—an era when drinking coffee from such a vessel offered both a moment's pause and a subtle gesture of openness to contemporary design. This cup carries the memory of Polish porcelain at the height of Ćmielów’s craftsmanship, where precise handwork and compositional rigor met the boldness of color and lustre. This piece may be used as a refined element in a formal
