ABOUT PRODUCTID 27314
This Maison Jansen style curule bench from the 1960s is a decorative piece rooted in the Hollywood Regency movement and produced in France. The construction features a substantial frame of black wrought iron, with legs curved into the classic X-shape of the curule form—a direct nod to neoclassical tradition. Polished brass accents—including lion's paw feet, decorative rings at the legs, and spherical finials on the backrest—add an expressive, jewel-like quality. The seat, backrest, and armrests are upholstered in a leopard-print fabric, combining tan, brown, black, and cream in a bold, soft velour. Visible rivets and stylized metal joints highlight the handcrafted metalwork. Its proportions—127 cm wide, 83 cm high, 48 cm deep, with a seat height of 38 cm—provide comfort for seating or as a decorative accent. The condition is very good, with only minor signs of use on the metal and upholstery, and no major damage or repairs. The bench evokes an era when Parisian interiors of the 1960s and 70s embraced daring stylistic juxtapositions. Its form, inspired by antiquity and amplified by Hollywood flamboyance, “tells” of a world where comfort and decorative presence held equal value. The golden lion's paws catch the light, while the leopard-print upholstery recalls a time when visual boldness was an expression of individuality. This is a piece that does not simply blend in, but rather assumes a starring role
