ABOUT PRODUCTID 8297
This ceramic bowl, designed by Jacques Pouchain at Atelier Dieulefit in France, was created circa 1965. Its square form is softly rounded at the corners, with subtly irregular edges that emphasize the artisanal, hand-crafted quality of the piece. The surface is adorned with a polychrome palette of warm, earthy tones: terracotta red, deep charcoal black, olive green, and creamy white intertwine in an abstract, geometric arrangement. The stoneware features a dynamic interplay of finishes—matte, slightly grainy sections contrast with glossy, smooth areas—enhancing the three-dimensional effect and allowing light to highlight the organic, irregular shapes. Lighter portions are speckled with fine, dark inclusions, while the black and red areas remain lustrous and even. The bowl is signed by the artist. It is preserved in excellent vintage condition, showing no visible damages and maintaining its original patina and well-kept surface. This bowl carries the spirit of 1960s French modernism, when functional art embraced abstraction and the intuitive hand of the maker. Its gentle asymmetry and visible traces of handwork evoke a tactile dialogue with the material, where the spontaneity of glazing and the texture of ceramics recount a pursuit of unexpected beauty. The bowl seems to whisper the story of the Dieulefit atelier—a place where southern French tradition encountered a modern approach to form and color. The piece can be displayed alone on an oak console or low table, highlighting its sculptural presence. It will make a statement in mid-century modern interiors but is equally suited to eclectic or minimalist settings, where it can be paired with natural fabrics, raw wood, or a single graphic artwork to accentuate
