ABOUT PRODUCTID 1533
This crystal bowl from the Mandruzatto glassworks, created in Murano around 1950, embodies the pinnacle of mid-century Italian glassmaking. Designed in the spirit of modernism by Flavio Poli, it was crafted using the layered crystal glass technique known as 'sommerso' or the sun technique. The form features a pentagonal outline and sharply faceted planes, achieved through meticulous hand-cutting. The interior is smoothly rounded, contrasting with the angular exterior and flat surfaces. Its most striking characteristic is the intense amber-yellow core, encased within a thick layer of clear crystal; the color transitions in a vibrant gradient from the saturated center to the transparent edge. The surface is highly polished, enhancing both clarity and the sharpness of the facets. The bowl measures 8.5 cm in height and 14 cm in diameter. It is preserved in excellent condition, with no visible signs of wear or damage. The form of this bowl speaks with the voice of 1950s Italian modernism: geometric rigor meets the sensuality of light and color. The thick crystal and faceted planes evoke architectural sculpture, as if the glass had captured a fragment of sunlight. This object tells the story of an era defined by bold innovation—melding advanced techniques with the noble glassmaking tradition of Murano. Each reflection, refracted through the amber core, recalls the pursuit
