ABOUT PRODUCTID 36632
This decorative porcelain box from Chodov, created between 1918 and 1938, represents the craftsmanship of late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco in Central Europe. Made from creamy white, glazed porcelain, the compact, rectangular body features softly rounded edges and a smooth, glossy finish. The lid is crowned with a sculpted, hand-painted figure of a faun playing a pan flute, which also serves as a convenient handle. The color palette is defined by natural tones of brown, grey, and gold; gilding accents appear along the undulating rim of the lid, in vertical ribbing at the corners, and stylized leaves at each base. The underside bears the Chodov manufactory mark. There are no chips or cracks—only minor original manufacturing dots on the lid and gentle, age-consistent wear to the gilding, further affirming its authenticity. The box remains in very good condition, with no evident repairs or interventions. This piece, a quiet witness to the interwar years, fuses the flowing finesse of late Secession with the emerging geometric order of Art Deco. The sculpted faun—playful yet serene—evokes a nostalgia for mythic worlds in a rapidly modernizing Europe. Gold accents catch the light, reflecting a subtle glow reminiscent of historic salons, where such objects served not only as décor but as stories of transitional eras. The box may be displayed atop a 1920s sideboard or on a contemporary console, making for a refined collector’s accent. It pairs harmoniously with other porcelain miniatures, period glassware, or dark oak, creating a cohesive arrangement for Art Deco or eclectic collector’s interiors. It is worth combining with a lamp featuring a gilded base or a mirrored tabletop to enhance the interplay of reflections and details. Its small size also lends itself
