ABOUT PRODUCTID 4572
This enameled bronze crucible, crafted in China in the second half of the 19th century, showcases the artistry of the late Qing dynasty through its thoughtful combination of materials and decorative techniques. The main body, fashioned from gilded bronze with a warm, matte golden tone, features an undulating rim and is adorned with low-relief motifs of dragons and foliage. The robust, cylindrical handle stands out with its vivid cobalt cloisonné enamel, accented by raised details in green, yellow, red, and white, forming traditional Chinese symbols and possibly auspicious objects. Visible soldering at the handle joint and a small supporting leg ensure the vessel’s solidity, while the glossy enamel contrasts with the subdued patina of the bronze. The object bears minor traces of age and use typical for its period, but no significant damage or signs of restoration. Dimensions: height 6.4 cm, width 10 cm, length 21 cm. The piece is preserved in good antique condition. This vessel tells the story of an era when East Asian craftsmen skillfully balanced the monumentality of metalwork with the symbolic nuance of their motifs. The matte sheen of bronze and the swirling dragons evoke the atmosphere of Chinese temples, where everyday objects served as vessels for meaning—protection, prosperity, and harmony. The vibrant enamel on the handle seems to narrate a tale of fortune and abundance, while the surface’s subtle irregularities embody the wabi-sabi philosophy: the beauty of imperfection and authenticity. The crucible can be displayed on a low console of dark wood or a stone shelf, where it can anchor an oriental collection. It pairs well with period ceramics or minimalist décor in neutral tones, emphasizing the contrast between gilded bronze and intense enamel. The piece would suit interiors inspired by Oriental style, eclectic collector’s studies, or contemporary spaces where a singular antique accent sets a tone of understated luxury.
